Students were
introduced to alliteration with the statement:
"Susie sells
seashells by the seashore."
Students were
then asked what they noticed about that statement and they responded that
most of the words started with an 'S.' The students were then told
that they were going to write a poem using the first letter of their first
name as the repeating letter. Several examples were given as the
teacher went around the room asking for names and words that began with
their names.
The students
were then shown the poetry template for this poem and we completed a
practice poem together on the SMARTBoard.
Next, the
students opened their templates and began writing
their poems on the computer. The teachers assisted using the Describing Words Guide
to assist students having problems coming up with words for their name's
letter.
When they
completed their poem, they came up with a title by using a phrase from
their poem. Then they could select a clip art graphic to add to
their poem.
Please feel free to use these templates with your students as you would
like. |
