Owney joined our class for a visit on March 18, 2009.  He arrived the day before at the end of the school day, waiting for us patiently in the office.  Owney went home with Mrs. Hicks and enjoyed a quiet evening watching her grade papers.  The next day he greeted the students as they walked into the classroom.  Everyone was glad to see him.  Together we read the story about Owney, and then watched the Power Point of Mrs. Hicks' trip to Washington, D.C. where she visited Owney at the Post Office Museum.  The rest of the day Owney had fun learning with us, reading with us and visiting with our classroom turtles!  Then it was time to say good-bye to our new friend as he continued on his way to visit other classrooms around the United States.
