O.R.E.O. 2006

Our class participated in TechnoSpud's online project:
Our Really Excellent Online project

It was fun to see how many Oreos could be stacked before falling,
but we ended up learning so much more than that!
We used many of the skills we have learned
this year in our 2nd grade math.

Take a look at all we learned!

We made predictions:

Student #14:   I think I can stack 10 cookies before it tumbles.
Student # 1:   I think I can stack 29 cookies before it tumbles.
Student #6:   I think I can stack 11 cookies before it tumbles.

We counted as we stacked until our tower fell:

Student #10:   Attempt 1 = 17 cookies     Attempt 2 = 24 cookies
Student #18:   Attempt 1 = 19 cookies     Attempt 2 = 20 cookies
Student #17:   Attempt 1 = 17 cookies     Attempt 2 = 12 cookies

We recognized which attempt was the greater number:

Student #8:   Attempt 1 at 20 was greater than Attempt 2 at 18.
Student #5:  Attempt 2 at 18 was greater than Attempt 1 at 15
Student #4:  Attempt 2 at 20 was greater than Attempt 1 at 17.

We subtracted to find out how many more cookies
were used in our best attempt:

Student #2:  15 cookies - 14 cookies = 1 more cookie
Student #16:  24 cookies - 17 cookies = 7 more cookies
Student #9:  18 cookies - 12 cookies = 6 more cookies

We determined if our prediction was greater than,
less than or equal to our best attempt:

Student #13:  My prediction of 20 was less than my best result of 26.
Student #15:  My prediction of 16 was less than my best result of 20.
Student #12:  My prediction of 90 was more than my best result of 22.

We made tally marks to show our best attempt:
Student #3:

= 26 cookies
Student #7: = 19 cookies
Student #11: = 12 cookies
We had a great time applying our math skills
to such a fun math project!!
