British and Western Literature will soon split into two courses, British and Western Literature I and British and Western Literature II.  The plan will probably split the material chronologically at about 1900.

British and Western Literature ranges widely through periods and genres, beginning with Greek mythology and taking some time with Homer's Iliad, the story of the Trojan War, before proceeding quickly to Anglo-Saxon literature (especially Beowulf) and into Middle English (The Canterbury Tales.)  Shakespeare follows, with one major play, and thenceforward as time permits into 18th-19th Century English lit.
