This elective course will enable the student to become a wiser consumer in the area of clothing. The field of fashion merchandising will be introduced both as a career option and as it relates to purchasing practices. Each student will also gain experience and a level of expertise in the area of clothing construction. This experience will enhance the level of awareness in purchasing policies and will teach techniques necessary in constructing a garment. The student will purchase the garment supplies that he/she and the instructor agree meets the fashion needs and expectations of the student.
FIRST PROJECT ITEMS:
Notebook (3-ring binder) (ASAP)
Package of hand sewing needles
Shears (sewing scissors)
Spool of thread (any neutral color for sewing samples)
Buttons (1 flat, 1 shank)
1 yard muslin or cotton fabric for practice sewing
Fabric (Can not be silky or stretchy) and notions (2)
Second Project must be approved by Ms. Shelton!!!
Sewing (hem) gauge
Tracing wheel paper or marking pen for fabric
Be sure to mark all supplies with name or initials
Will need a small container to hold supplies
Supplies will be stored in assigned tote trays
When missing an item always check the lost and found box.
