Library Use and Policies

  • The Central High School Library has over 20,000 books available for check-out by students, staff and patrons of the Cape Girardeau community.

  • Seventy-five magazines and subscriptions are available in the Library.

  • Five newspapers are available in the Library.

Most books, both fiction and nonfiction, are checked out for two-week periods.  They may be re-checked if necessary.  Magazines may also be checked out. Students are requested to show a photo ID when checking out an item.

The Central High School Library is open from 7:00-3:30 during the school year.  Upon the request of a teacher or as need dictates, evening hours are available for student research and computer use.

Our selection of CAREER BOOKS  is extensive.  We also have books available that offer help on the ACT, SAT, ASVAB colleges and college entrance essays.

TEXTBOOKS are checked out electronically in the Library.  Concerns or questions about all textbooks used by the Central staff can be answered by our staff.

We are expanding our collection of BOOKS ON TAPES and AUDIO CDS at the request of our students and staff.  These are also available for check out.

The Central Library has 15-25 titles from the weekly "New York Times" Best Seller list.

A copy machine is available for our patron's use.  The charge is five cents per page.
