How You Earn Your Grade In Orchestra
I. Attends/Performs in all Scheduled Concerts-the culminating activity of class work and rehearsal
a. Prepared and on time
b. Appropriate concert attire (white top/black bottom)
II. Class Participation
a. To class on time
b. Instrument in working order, music prepared, bow rosined, in a timely matter
c. Attentive during rehearsal
d. Good posture and playing position displayed
e. Positive interaction with director and fellow orchestra members
III. Music Folders
a. Bring folder to class each day
b. All music and materials concerned with orchestra are contained in the folder *loss or damage to folders result in replacement cost
IV. Playing Tests (approximately every three weeks)
a. Students practices, prepares for test
b. Correct notes, accurate rhythms, appropriate tempo
c. Good tone quality and bow execution
d. Intercepts dynamic markings
V. Written Tests (occasionally)
a. Appropriate word usage and sentence structure
b. Accurate spelling and punctuation
Extra Credit/Enrichment Opportunities
a. Performances Outside School (church, civic clubs, fiddle contests)
b. Involvement in District Honor Orchestra, District Solo/Ensemble festival, State Solo/Ensemble festival, All-State Orchestra, Musical Pit Orchestra, etc.
c. Attendance at Music Performances (Band-Choral Concerts, Show-Me Center Concerts, St. Louis Symphony, Paducha Symphony, recitals)
