Runners Are Not Born They Are Made!

Cross Country is a fall sport for Cape Central High School. The runners seem to have a good time with each other and do many activities besides running itself. We have spaghetti dinners Friday nights before race days to load up on carbs, summer camps, winter and summer running, and other fun activities during the season. The distance of a high cross country race is a 5k or 3.1 miles.

2009 Team Summary

The 2009 cross country team had another good year.  Overall the program had 5 first place finishes, 14 seconds, and 8 thirds.

 The junior high girls placed 2^nd in two races and 3^rd in two others.  Junior High All Conference athletes were Maddie Siefert, Jackie Crawford, and Bridget Trepasso.  The junior high boys team also placed 2^nd twice and 3^rd twice.  John Ayuso and Matt Castillo earned Junior High All Conference recognition.

 The junior varsity girls placed 2^nd in the Conference.  Three athletes earned J. V. All Conference honors including Lessley Dennington, Breauna Givens, and Janna Trautwein.  The junior varsity boys won the Conference Championship led by individual Conference Champion Travis Herbst.  Other J. V. All Conference athletes were Jawuan Howard, Jared Saylor, and Christian Hampton.  

 The girls varsity placed in the top three teams at five different races including 1^st at the Notre Dame Invitational and 2^nd at the Conference Championships.  The girls placed 5^th at Districts. The varsity boys team placed in the top two teams at six different races.  They won the Conference Championship, placed 2^nd in the District and 5^th at Sectionals.  Individually on the varsity level, the team had 8 All Conference, 4 All District and 2 All Sectional athletes.  The breakdown of varsity individual accomplishments is as follows:

 Laura Chavez- All Conference, Sectional Qualifier, State Qualifier

Alex Crawford- All Conference, All District

Megan Daly- All Conference, Sectional Qualifier

Mary Dohogne- All Conference, All District, All Sectional, State Qualifier

Roy Leighton- All Conference, All District, All Sectional, State Qualifier

Lars Monia- Sectional Qualifier

Jordyn Richmond- All Conference, Sectional Qualifier

Eric Schott- All Conference, All District, State Qualifier

Collin Summers- All Conference, Sectional Qualifier
