EXPLORE Test

The EXPLORE Test is given to all 8th graders.  This test was designed as the starting point of a long-term assessment system that continues with PLAN (10th grade) and ACT.  All three programs are built around the same four tests:  English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science.  However, the material tested in each program gets progressively more difficult.

ACT's Educational Planning and Assessment System includes the three, above mentioned, curriculum-based assessments that provide information about students' academic progress, interests, and career plans at key transition points in their academic careers.  EXPLORE provides baseline information on the academic abilities of eighth grade students that counselors can use to help them plan their high school coursework.  EXPLORE is also a good tool to use in predicting college readiness.

Additional components of EXPLORE include the UNIACT Interest Inventory, Needs Assessment and Plans and Background Information.  Based on the pattern of interest indicated by the student, results are then used to suggest jobs the student might enjoy.  This can be used as a tool by the student in thinking and planning for the future.

Students at CJHS received their EXPLORE test results in mid-January. Counselors visited 8th grade Literature classrooms in mid-January to disperse and explain the test results. Each student was given a copy along with an interpretive guide for their own file.  In addition, a copy was also placed in their permanent files at school.  Students are asked to keep their copies for future reference as we prepare for 9th grade pre-enrollment.  In addition, the copy placed in the permanent file will be there for high school counselors as they help students plan for high school and beyond.
